Negative experience: Inexperienced dentists at A&E, think chronic infections are from dry mouth

Fantastic experience: I would like to recognise The Pediatric Dentist Daithi. He is exceptionally kind and caring along with the Dental nurses in the clinic. My 8 year old Daughter had been extremely anxious following a few visits to local dentists and following a referral to the Dublin Dental UH we were so greatful for the ongoing treatment she has received. She giggled her way through most of the appointments whilst Daithi turned a worrying experience for her into a fun and relaxed environment. Even when she struggled he was patient to allow her time rather than create any further worries. We are so greatful for the fantastic care she has been receiving. Thank you.

Positive experience: All staff I encountered were kind and patient. Receptionist was lovely and the student dentist who looked after me did a great job

Fantastic experience: Staff are amazing, wait time varies from 20 minutes to a couple of hours. Parking nearby is 4.50 per hour.

Fantastic experience: I was there a good while back, I only realised now I never gave them the 5 stars they deserve. Excellent service, every body from reception, to security, radiologists and medical staff were fantastic. I was there several times for initial emergency management and revisits and every single time their service was outstanding. I think many of the people giving one star don't seem to understand that just because they're in pain or discomfort, it doesn't qualify as medical emergency. Go through the proper channels and see your GP dentist first.

Fantastic experience: We visited the dental hospital with my 89 year old Nana, from start to finish Anna the surgeon couldn’t have made our experience any better, Anna also had a young girl alongside her who just made our experience 100 times easier. We didn’t leave the hospital with good news but the two girls reassured us and was so patient with us they made a horrible morning receiving bad news a lot easier for us, it made such a difference getting such bad news by Anna and the girl she had with her.

Fantastic experience: The level of care and professionalism from both the senior staff and the junior staff is impeccable highly recommended, I had surgery yesterday and already on the mend, great hospital and staff

Fantastic experience: I was referred by my Dentist for a problem he or my Doctor couldn't figure out, I was only in the door when I was called in by this young lady who in seconds knew what we were dealing with, Absolutely First Class Treatment.

Fantastic experience: I got referred by my dentist to dental hos. I have to say from staff on reception to dental doctors, nurses n doctor Mary they couldn't do enough for me. They made me feel so comfortable n at ease as I get very nervous goin to dentist lately. My over all experience was excellent and can't thank them enough.

Fantastic experience: I had my wisdom tooth removed this morning and couldnt be happier. The dentists and nurses were so professional and reassuring they put my mind at ease during a painless procedure and even booked a follow up with no fuss, highly recommend.

Positive experience: I was referred to the DDUH by my own dentist for an emergency extraction. I was at risk with my sinus potentially being damaged during the tooth extraction. Dr Mary Clarke and her team worked wonders to get me out of pain and perform the op without damaging the sinus. I am extremely grateful to be pain free for the first time in over 3 weeks. I would have given 5 stars, but I do feel the wait times just to be assessed were too long and I did see a number of people rejected for treatment. This is not the fault of the staff, but just part of running an emergency dept. If you come here with any sort of complex issue without seeing your own dentist first, you might not get treatment. The emergency dept is not setup for complex issues and you will be lucky to get any work done same day without an appointment. I was one of the lucky ones due to the severity of my issue, but don’t be upset when they tell you to go see your own dentist. This is a busy place with many complex patients.

Fantastic experience: I've had several mouth tumours removed over the last 24 years in St.James hospital they recommended the Dublin dental hospital and I've been attending this hospital for the last 23 years,never ever have i been treated with the utmost respect and always excellent 1st.class service,at this stage i have nothing but respect for all the staff I've meet on this very long journey of mine and almost coming to the end of treatment ( i hope,providing i have no more tumors) sorry i mean ( nothing less than the utmost respect)

Negative experience: A & E is a joke. I have extremely rotten teeth from the medication i take and need to have them removed as the rot has almost reached bone, not being able to get an appointment with another dentist anytime soon i emailed the dental hospital with in depth description of my issues to which i got an email back saying to be in the emergency department and they'd be able to help me. I go out of county to be there at 8am and the dentist took a 5 second look and told me to see a dentist for a referral for the operation. They couldn't even give me a referral which makes no sense being that they are dentists, i wouldn't have minded but the email never stated that they wouldn't be able to refer me and lead me to believe id be helped and they just wasted mine my partner and their own time all because they cant even be bothered to not send an automated email

Fantastic experience: Wow. I have to say I couldn't have asked for better treatment. I had dental surgery on Friday morning. When I say the staff were the nicest ,kindest most comforting ladies. They couldn't have been better. My nurse Hanna was so reassuring and helpful. Just a really lovely lady great at her job. Dr Ròsin thank you for always getting me together and fixing me up n putting me back together. You are an excellent dentist n ur bedside manner is incredible. I'd have stayed there being spoiled if I could. Dr Mary Clark u are amazing and the ladies on my surgery had so much respect and admiration for you, it was clear to see u are an excellent educator. U explained everything u were doing while u were doing n the whole team just made me feel safe and in the best hands. I had been in alone for 6months n they really got in n fixed it up. Not going to lie in alot of pain but I couldn't recommend this place and the staff enough. Thank you. These ladies are angels that stop the pain n encourage u the whole time. Thank u

Fantastic experience: Thanks to everyone from the reception desk to my legend of a dentist, he's a lad from Cork I'm old enough to be his father yet his IQ is on a different level. Never once did he need a "supervisor" Doctor never once did I feel uncomfortable and this was someone who didn't have an assistant (and I never once felt he needed) a born Dentist if Ciarán O'Driscoll is ever assigned to you, thank the stars. I'm sure everyone is as good but if you seen before and after you'd see his talent. Thank you to everyone in there the appreciation is legit 100% you made me smile again I can't thank you enough

Positive experience: Went 5here after my dentist messed up and had to have roots removed. All the girls were so nice and put me at ease. There's a paticular senior dentist who is I can't even explain except to say condescending and to the trainee dentists too. Atmosphere totally changed when she was around. They couldn't get a vein for sedation even though I told her that my veins are deep and where she would find one. She literally laughed in my face when I felt at my most vulnerable. Anyway all the other girls were delightful and comforting. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: My daughter Aoibhe who is 19 and autistic needed a small operation in her mouth and the team in the Dental Hospital were just brilliant. From the porter to the surgeon and everyone in the middle, it could not have been a better experience. My daughter was very nervous but the team quickly calmed her down and were so respectful and kind to all of us

Fantastic experience: I was having severe problems with an Extraction I had 6 weeks ago with my own Dentist,I attended the Dental Hospital as. Last straw as I was in severe pain and hadn’t eaten in nearly a week.The Treatment I got was second to none the young Dentist was very understanding to my pain she took swabs and I was sent for X-rays .When I came back she had a Oral Surgeon there and they sorted out the problem,I would like to thank both of them for getting me sorted and no more pain.

Negative experience: AWAY!!! The worst hospital with disgusting service. Due to doctor mistake i had to go to other country for treatment of my teeth. Local doctors were shoked of the job which was done in Dublin Dental Hospital.

Negative experience: I needed a tooth removed and I got a absence just before I was going to go upto them.I new they were only doing emergencies so I can be got antibiotics and I got rid of the absence and they said that it wasn't an emergency left me with an exposed nerve unbelievable pain worse dental staff ever.

Negative experience: Appalling service, don't bother your hole going near it. My tooth broke off and left root and nerve exposed. Waited in a and e for over 2 hours to be dismissed by a rude little nurse who made me feel like a burden for going in. Don't bother your hole going near the place a disgrace !!!!!!

Fantastic experience: Reception girl was lovely so kind helpful nurses were brilliant with my son with xray and examinations nurses are ran off there feet there was 7 or 8 ahead of us but they got threw everyone quick enough for a busy Monday morn my sons tooth could not be saved but they explained the different options to us if your accepted for treatment you go to desk and give details b4 xray. You will be asked if u have a medical card at reception which is very helpful as you know where u stand then with payment.

Fantastic experience: My wife Alison attended the Dental Hospital for a wisdom tooth extraction the staff were wonderful especially the girl on the emergency desk very helpful.

Fantastic experience: Received excellent care at the student clinic everything was overseen by a Consultant. I couldn't fault them.

Negative experience: My partner had one central incisor fractured and the other possibly affected as well, we were told by the hospital to go to this A&E Dental clinic and the staff did NOT remove the tooth and said he had to go to his own dentist, they did not prescribe any antibiotics for a DEAD tooth!!!!! One of your staff members wasn't even able to do the x-rays, they gave him a follow-up appointment and said he was fine (which he was not, he had a severe infection which affected the other incisor as well but they did not say anything!). I requested the x-rays and pictures and the lady on the phone was so rude and it took so long to get them back. This clinic should be shut down immediately. Absolutely useless.

Negative experience: Deplorable service, don't waste your time. Unless your jaw is hanging off they make you wait hours to refer you back to your dentist who referred you there in the first place. Administration staff are extremely rude and not bothered about the patients and dental staff will make you feel like you are wasting their time when it's the other way around, shambles of a place and no information on their website to say opening times etc

Fantastic experience: Attended the emergency department and can’t thank all the staff enough, I was in so much pain and so upset and they really put me at ease

Negative experience: My partner couldnt eat for a month, have such pain in teeth with the inflammation etc in her teeth. Hard to make it to have the kids minded but visited the Hospital today. They sent her away as there is no blood, so she is fine. All practices sent her away as nether accept medical card nor want to have new patient. Unbelievable the whole situation.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic A&E department. Everyone was very kind and understanding, I was in and out within a matter of hours, totally sorted and sent back with not only a prescription but with a generous amount of supplies

Fantastic experience: Everyone here was very caring and helpful. My partner and I attended the hospital after an accident and they couldn't have been more helpful. The consultant even wrote us letters for hospital to check on suspected broken bones. We received excellent care here.

Negative experience: Went in with two badly broken wisdom teeth after being on a waiting list for removal for almost 2 years for removal, told them how severe the pain was and went to A&E as a last resort only to be assessed for less than 5 minutes and told to go to a regular dentist that I didn’t fit the criteria after I specified that I could not get appointments anywhere and this was a last resort due to the severe pain. Very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend to anyone

Fantastic experience: Just attended the A&E department, treated by Dr Oonagh Coughlan. I can't thank her enough for her caring and professional manner. Thanks also to the Consultant and team for their diagnosis and advice. They run an outstanding service.

Fantastic experience: Unfortunately my front tooth got knocked out and the staff on call on a Saturday night constantly reassured me over and over on the phone and we’re very patient with the melt down I was having. When I arrived the following day they were extremely professional and reassuring again, thankfully my tooth was saved with the advice I was given the day before and the action they took the following day. I would highly recommend for an emergency procedure that may arise, I’m so grateful.

Negative experience: If I could give 0 stars I would. Staff on the phones are extremely rude. 3 times over the last 6 weeks I've rang the emergency services & too be told get an antibiotic or come in the next day but can't guarantee you will be seen.. in excruciating pain, face swelling, 5 antibiotics & tooth extracted & still no better & that's the advice they gave me. Worst patient care I've experienced ever. AVOID!!!@

Negative experience: Have been on a waiting list since September 2019, ive had 3 appointments cancelled on me since February this year, still no new appointment, nothing.

Fantastic experience: really great service from Dr. Mark Clark's team. Very friendly and professional, made sure i was not in pain during my operation. Definitely recommend if you need any surgical extractions done. You will be waiting for a few weeks when you first bring in a referral but it is worth it as they treat you very, very well.

Fantastic experience: Dublin Dental Hospital were there for me when I had tried multiple doctors and dentists. I was in agony with a salivary stone and my regular doctor gave me antibiotics and told me to come back in a month but that week I went into the dental hospital and the following week I had surgery to remove the stone. From the moment I called the dental hospital the staff were caring and amazing. I have the upmost respect the service they provide for the people of ireland as I know without them nobody else seemed to care. Thanks again to everyone in the hospital and especially to Dermot Pierce and his team

Negative experience: I called the hospital today, and the man was rude and unfriendly. I was asking for question/ advice and he almost hung up the phone, with out explaining much to me,he was very unpatient and rude. Disgraceful

It was very wonderful years in my life in Dublin Ierland as well I was the first international lab technician had got a master degree in dental science in 2005, and the second lab technician had gotten master degree from school of dentistry after Mr. Declan Byrne, Mr Byrne who are with me in the picture one of my Laboratory supervisor. Negative experience: My girlfriend was with severe toothache and their best advise was Solpadein to sort the issue until her dentist can see her next week. It's pathetic. Thankfully they not said flat 7up, but I wouldn't be surprised. I only gave one star, because I couldn't give 0.

Negative experience: I rang them they told me to get antibiotics for an abscess I had so I did that, The day the infection was gone I was in unbelievable pain from my exposed nerve and I waited for hour and a half just to be told "Emm Can't Take That Thooth Out or I Can't Do Anything Because There's No Ifection"Sooo THANKS FOR NOTHING JUST BECAUSE I WAS ON THE MEDICAL CARD!!!!!!!!

Negative experience: Went in today with an emergency and told I don’t pass the criteria by what is supposably the most senior person there after been told to go in if it’s an emergency. Left in pain with no solution. I was told I need to be referred by my dentist but wasn’t told that when I rang. Unprofessional disgraceful service.

Fantastic experience: Such a wonderful facility to have the staff are absolutely brilliant with the care and professionalism they provide I highly recommend this hospital.

Fantastic experience: Excellent experience in Dental Emergency Department, all the staff starting from entering the hospital they were all friendly and very accommodating from the security, reception,x-ray department and Emergency team with special thanks to my mum's Clinician who looked after her very well Dr.Grace & Dr.Daniel. Negative experience: Really disappointing experience . I decided to go to the accident and emergency as I was experiencing pain in my gums for 6 days with no sign of it getting any better. My own dentist couldn't see me until the following week . After waiting 3 and a half hours I was finally seen only to be told they weren't exactly sure what the problem was. I was told it might be an infection or might be a cracked tooth and I might need to get it removed . I was charged 70 euro to be told my own dentist would be able to help me as they weren't sure . What really irked me was that having seen my own dentist , he was clearly able to see the problem from the x-ray taken in the trinity dental hospital . It's no wonder they charge you before you see a dentist as there is no way I should have had to pay for this shoddy service .

Fantastic experience: Very good service. Had root canal done as an emergency. Dentist an staff were great.

Negative experience: Came in with inflammation of gums and pain. Got assessment done from about 1.5m safe distance. I was told that it wasn't emergency and that I have to go and see my own dentist. I asked to be properly examined, but was refused. After I explained that I couldn't get an appointment with any dentists for the next two weeks he told me to keep taking pain killers and try to find somebody. Very disappointed.

Negative experience: Rude staff very unhelpful my own GP had to give me a prescription very uncaring no understanding and expect yiu to be in pain and pay private and will expect a GP to write a prescription as they are unwilling and to lazy to even talk to you

Fantastic experience: I was assisting a person with an intellectual disability today in the DDUH West Wing and I have to say the experience was unbelievable. From start to finish the staff were excellent, they are a credit to the hospital. I wish I had have gotten their names but they were so helpful and accommodating as the person who was receiving the treatment needs it. Thank you to those people from myself and the service user I was assisting.

Fantastic experience: Had excellent experience with Asian dentist, think name was Joshua, made feel relaxed an he had good humour an very professional, was nervous about pain an none what so ever. Great experience for painful tooth. Well worth the wait at reception. Great price an service for A&E dental.

Negative experience: Abosulutely shocking treatment from the staff at this facility . Waited hours to be told I didn't look in enough pain to be treated even though I had a referral from my dentist . Dentist could see I was in much pain and discomfort ,I had made it known I couldn't eat or sleep or barley function . The nurse in triage sent me home without any treatment given 0/5 star rating would definitely not recommended to anyone

Fantastic experience: All I Can tell you is that you get what you are looking for. All the staff are very good and friendly and even you get asked if you would like a glass of water.

Negative experience: Yesterday I went to emmergency in Dental hospital . I am still in pain.The Lady dentist was not nice at all she said why you came here? why you didn't go to your dentist ?she didn't even let me explain, she said we don't do cleaning I said sorry I didn' t come to clean my theeth I said I am on pain she was not humanitarian at all even if it is a law I respect but if I was ok I don' t go to hospital . I cant tell you why I couldnt go to see my dentist my review not about all staff hospital no Of course not all the same.

Fantastic experience: My dentist referred me to a specialist who said I would need a "Bone Graft" costing Euro 2000. I e mailed the Dental hospital, was seen withing 3 months and had my problem sorted by the wonderful dentists there. A much simpler solution worked really well. My husband has since attended the DH and again got superb care and treatment from all the staff. Thank you.

Negative experience: ive been there 3 times and all of those times i had to wait over 2hrs - 3 hrs for the doctor. the students were the ones tending to me but the doctor takes so long to show up.

Positive experience: Great staff, extremely patient with nervous people like myself, unfortunately I couldn't get work done as too much needs to be fixed, plus I couldn't relax enough, but I'll definitely recommend to anyone

Fantastic experience: I had to go to emergency care yesterday (28/8/2018). The staff was excellent and did the proper assessment of my condition. i had to extract my teeth and i could do everything in 70 Euros which included (X ray, assessment and surgery). if it was any other place it would cost me 200 euros. Besides the staff are very dedicated , friendly and professional. They made me feel at ease all the time. Facilities are excellent too.

Fantastic experience: Great hospital with exceptionally hard working friendly staff and students. You can usually get treatment done here with a referral letter from your dentist. Bear in mind it is a teaching hospital with real students, so sometimes your treatment will be done by students or by a specialist who will have students observing. We all have to learn somewhere! ;) I've had a wonderful team taking care of my complicated dental history in the West clinic for 2 years now :)
